What causes hair loss?

Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) is a genetic trait. It’s called Androgenetic Alopecia. It’s inherited from your family. If the men in your family are showing a bald spot on the crown, it’s likely you will too.

This is an issue men have been dealing with for centuries. According to legend, Julius Caesar invented the laurel leaf wreath to cover his receding hairline.

Too bad Julius didn’t have access to Provillus in the days of the Roman Empire.

MPB results from genetic traits, and hormonal causes. Provillus can’t change your genetic history, but it can help with the hormonal causes.

DHT is the hormone involved in hair loss

DHT (dihydrotestostrone) is derived from androgen, a male hormone. As the androgen circulates through the bloodstream, it is converted to DHT by the enzyme, 5-alpha reductase. DHT tends to bind to hair follicle receptors,
causing the follicles to sprout thinner and thinner hairs until nothing regrows, and the follicles eventually wither away.

The life cycle of normal hair growth

Normally, hair has three phases of growth:

  • Anagen – The growth phase, lasts for two to six years. Usually 90% of the hair is in growth phase.
  • Catagen -- A transient phase lasting a few weeks. The hair becomes thinner and the follicle starts shrinking.
  • Telogen – The thinned hairs fall off to make way for new hair. This lasts for two to four months.

When excess DHT is in the bloodstream, it shortens the Anagen, or growth phase, and causes premature shrinkage of the follicles. Because the DHT is bound to the follicle, often the hair will not re-grow normally.

Provillus helps block DHT from strangling your hair follicles.

Minoxidil, the ingredient clinically proven, and approved by the FDA for re-growing your hair, inhibits DHT. This powerful active ingredient works in your hair follicles.

How Hair Straightening Is Hazardous And Can Be The Cause Hair Loss

By Eugene Yeng

It's become a habit lately, what with all the pop culture sensations and all the models in the fashion magazines - straightening of the hair is the new look. It's slick, lucid, and hot. But what many people don't realize, is that although it may make you look fashionably acceptable, you do risk baldness. We will look at the reasons why hair straightening is bad and can cause hair loss.

It used to be the case that, although taking care of your style and looking good was a priority, it wasn't worth damaging your looks to do it. Gel and wax used to suffice, but due to the celebrities and fashion stars of today, straightening has become a must. We used it everyday to do our hair into noticeable styles everyday by striking that iron to our curls.

A straightener can reach temperatures of up to 430 degrees Fahrenheit. That kind of heat is enough to burn paper. By taking that kind of heat to your head each and every single day, your hair will be dried out, and will get damaged, and it can even lead to baldness. Take a woman who uses a personal straightener every day. Unless she cuts it regularly, she will begin start see frayed strands and split ends, and noticing that it is becoming exceedingly dry.

The reason it will break is due to the fact that straighteners (or indeed any kind of heat applied to the scalp) thin the hair shaft and it dry out. This in turn causes breakages, and further and incessant use of a straightener can ultimately lead to tufts of it falling out. To solve this, use a deep conditioner in the shower, and also cut down on the amount of time you use your straightener each week.

But simply straightening with an iron in the privacy of your own home is not the only way of achieving that sheer and slick look. If you're very unhappy with the state of your style, you can ask a hairdresser to chemically straighten your hair for you. This, however, can be even worse than straightening using heat.

Although hairdressers are professionals, there is still a risk that they can make errors. The effects of incorrectly applying chemical straightener to hair can be disastrous. It can lead to it being dried out and starved, and it may also lead to baldness, and chunks of it may begin to fall out.

It is always prudent to be aware of the consequences when straightening. And so next time you stand in front of the mirror clutching your iron, take into account that although you are looking good now, you are risking your hair's health in the future. In ten years, you may stand facing a mirror looking at yourself, bald.

These are only some of the reasons why hair straightening is bad and can cause hair loss. It would be best to find a method to straighten that doesn't involve heat or chemicals. If one of those is not available right now, then learn to love the look you were born with, it will always be in fashion your whole life.
