What causes hair loss?

Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) is a genetic trait. It’s called Androgenetic Alopecia. It’s inherited from your family. If the men in your family are showing a bald spot on the crown, it’s likely you will too.

This is an issue men have been dealing with for centuries. According to legend, Julius Caesar invented the laurel leaf wreath to cover his receding hairline.

Too bad Julius didn’t have access to Provillus in the days of the Roman Empire.

MPB results from genetic traits, and hormonal causes. Provillus can’t change your genetic history, but it can help with the hormonal causes.

DHT is the hormone involved in hair loss

DHT (dihydrotestostrone) is derived from androgen, a male hormone. As the androgen circulates through the bloodstream, it is converted to DHT by the enzyme, 5-alpha reductase. DHT tends to bind to hair follicle receptors,
causing the follicles to sprout thinner and thinner hairs until nothing regrows, and the follicles eventually wither away.

The life cycle of normal hair growth

Normally, hair has three phases of growth:

  • Anagen – The growth phase, lasts for two to six years. Usually 90% of the hair is in growth phase.
  • Catagen -- A transient phase lasting a few weeks. The hair becomes thinner and the follicle starts shrinking.
  • Telogen – The thinned hairs fall off to make way for new hair. This lasts for two to four months.

When excess DHT is in the bloodstream, it shortens the Anagen, or growth phase, and causes premature shrinkage of the follicles. Because the DHT is bound to the follicle, often the hair will not re-grow normally.

Provillus helps block DHT from strangling your hair follicles.

Minoxidil, the ingredient clinically proven, and approved by the FDA for re-growing your hair, inhibits DHT. This powerful active ingredient works in your hair follicles.

Methods For Taking On Men's Hair Loss

By Renetta Creech

Hair loss is a sensitive topic for most men. Losing their hair is hard to accept gracefully. Some go to great lengths to cover up the fact they're going bald. Others spend months or even years in denial as their hair gets thinner and sparser. The good news is that there are some things you can do to minimalize the effect that hair loss will have on your life. It's okay to talk about it guys; obviously you are not the only man out there who is looking at his scalp and thinking "wow I can see you a lot more clearly today than I could yesterday!"

You can have hair replacement surgery, if you are overly concerned about the loss of your hair. It can cost a good deal of money and for some men, doesn't necessarily work out the way they intended it to. Hair replacement surgery is a bit overkill, so you should really only consider it if you have run out of alternatives. Although, you don't want to wait a real long time - nothing says, "I just had surgery" more so than waiting until you are nearly bald and having an operation to implant your whole head with new hair. If you decide to go with this, make sure you pay attention to all the instructions provided by your doctor about the correct care for your implanted hair follicles.

A typical way for coping with the loss of hair is to go out and purchase a toupee or wear a wig to hide the present state of your hair (or the absence of). There are some very good toupees out there but they can be difficult to find. Never forget that, in the case of a toupee, it is better to be totally bald than to wear a bad wig. A hideous hairpiece is more harmful to you than being completely bald. And trust us when we tell you that you will be able to tell by other people's reactions whether or not the toupee you've purchased is a good one.

A hair comb over is one thing you should never consider even trying. The comb over is just pitiful. This may sound rude, but think about all the balding men you knew when you were growing up. Don't you think each and every one looked a bit nutty when they tried to do a comb over? In no way does hair that is combed from one side of your head to the other look like natural hair growth. Doing this is more detrimental than picking out a hideous wig. Besides, all you need is for your comb-over to get caught in the wind, which will mess it up completely and make you look like a moron.

Most men are affected by hair loss at some point in their lifetime. Some men will have to adjust to being completely bald by a certain age. To avoid dealing with bald spots, some men will choose to go bald and shave their heads. The key is to remember you are not alone and it is okay to talk to others about hair loss. Losing their hair is a concern for all men.
