What causes hair loss?

Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) is a genetic trait. It’s called Androgenetic Alopecia. It’s inherited from your family. If the men in your family are showing a bald spot on the crown, it’s likely you will too.

This is an issue men have been dealing with for centuries. According to legend, Julius Caesar invented the laurel leaf wreath to cover his receding hairline.

Too bad Julius didn’t have access to Provillus in the days of the Roman Empire.

MPB results from genetic traits, and hormonal causes. Provillus can’t change your genetic history, but it can help with the hormonal causes.

DHT is the hormone involved in hair loss

DHT (dihydrotestostrone) is derived from androgen, a male hormone. As the androgen circulates through the bloodstream, it is converted to DHT by the enzyme, 5-alpha reductase. DHT tends to bind to hair follicle receptors,
causing the follicles to sprout thinner and thinner hairs until nothing regrows, and the follicles eventually wither away.

The life cycle of normal hair growth

Normally, hair has three phases of growth:

  • Anagen – The growth phase, lasts for two to six years. Usually 90% of the hair is in growth phase.
  • Catagen -- A transient phase lasting a few weeks. The hair becomes thinner and the follicle starts shrinking.
  • Telogen – The thinned hairs fall off to make way for new hair. This lasts for two to four months.

When excess DHT is in the bloodstream, it shortens the Anagen, or growth phase, and causes premature shrinkage of the follicles. Because the DHT is bound to the follicle, often the hair will not re-grow normally.

Provillus helps block DHT from strangling your hair follicles.

Minoxidil, the ingredient clinically proven, and approved by the FDA for re-growing your hair, inhibits DHT. This powerful active ingredient works in your hair follicles.

Top Hair Loss Treatment Options for Men

By Carrie Deppen

Changes In Lifestyle / Stress Management

This is the simplest and most basic hair loss treatment approach. For men who've experienced sudden hair loss, this can merely be due to severe emotional or physical stress. Many are not aware that high levels of stress of pressure and anxiety can push massive numbers of hair to go into the resting phase. After a few months, these hairs suddenly fall out causing substantial hair loss.

Oral Hair Loss Medications

Currently, the most purchased oral drug to treat hair loss is Finasteride (Propecia). It's mode of action is to inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha reductase preventing the conversion of testosterone to DHT, thus it is used to treat male pattern baldness. The medication should never be used by women and children.

It is also contraindicated in men with liver problems and prostate disorders. The side effects include headache, breast tenderness, testicular pain, dizziness, skin rashes, and male sexual dysfunctions. Recently, much concern has been focused on unwanted effects like decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and decreased semen quality. Apparently, these side effects will go away after stopping the treatment. But for Propecia to work effectively, it should be taken daily. Laser Treatment

Laser therapy is a potentially effective non-surgical hair loss treatment approach. Low Level Laser Therapy or LLLT is a low-power laser administered to the scalp and has been shown to boost the health of existing hair as well as induce new hair growth. Previously, this was only available in hair clinics. Laser Therapy can now be done at home using HairMax LaserComb. This FDA-cleared device allows convenience of hair loss treatment at home while spending only a fraction of the cost compared to hair clinics.

Topical Preparations

Minoxidil was originally intended as a treatment for hypertension and it was found out that one side effect of the drug is hair growth. A topical solution was then manufactured to treat baldness, hence the birth of Rogaine. This should be used every day as the effect on hair growth is only temporary and can disappear within months after stopping treatment.

Side effects include burning, irritation, changes in hair colour or texture, and unwanted facial hair growth.

Natural Herbal-Based Hair Loss Treatment

Nisim Biofactors is a hair loss range that can control hair loss in as little as one week. With over 20 years in hair technology, Nisim has produced the herbal-based shampoo, conditioner, and stimulating extract to stop DHT and is clinically proven to regrow hair. The advantage of using these natural products is that unlike pharmaceutical preparations, they are safe to use every day. In addition, Nisim has essential amino acids and B vitamin complex to feed weak hairs and follicles from within.
