What causes hair loss?

The life cycle of normal hair growth

  • Catagen -- A transient phase lasting a few weeks. The hair becomes thinner and the follicle starts shrinking.
  • Telogen – The thinned hairs fall off to make way for new hair. This lasts for two to four months.

When excess DHT is in the bloodstream, it shortens the Anagen, or growth phase, and causes premature shrinkage of the follicles. Because the DHT is bound to the follicle, often the hair will not re-grow normally.

How Women Can Deal With Baldness

Hair loss happens to both men and women. It is however the men whom young folks target for making fun, comparing the bald to that of a fortune telling crystal balls. The symptoms, patterns, and effects are different between male and females. In the case of women, hair loss is mostly in the centre region of the head.

Heredity and internal bodily problems are reason for male baldness. Hormone loss in women due to changes internally after child birth is the reasons for female hair loss.

In many cases, the loss is temporary and hair starts growing in women.

Menopause is something which creates a lot of problems, physically and mentally for women. Hormone production is seriously affected, results in falling hair.
