What causes hair loss?

Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) is a genetic trait. It’s called Androgenetic Alopecia. It’s inherited from your family. If the men in your family are showing a bald spot on the crown, it’s likely you will too.

This is an issue men have been dealing with for centuries. According to legend, Julius Caesar invented the laurel leaf wreath to cover his receding hairline.

Too bad Julius didn’t have access to Provillus in the days of the Roman Empire.

MPB results from genetic traits, and hormonal causes. Provillus can’t change your genetic history, but it can help with the hormonal causes.

DHT is the hormone involved in hair loss

DHT (dihydrotestostrone) is derived from androgen, a male hormone. As the androgen circulates through the bloodstream, it is converted to DHT by the enzyme, 5-alpha reductase. DHT tends to bind to hair follicle receptors,
causing the follicles to sprout thinner and thinner hairs until nothing regrows, and the follicles eventually wither away.

The life cycle of normal hair growth

Normally, hair has three phases of growth:

  • Anagen – The growth phase, lasts for two to six years. Usually 90% of the hair is in growth phase.
  • Catagen -- A transient phase lasting a few weeks. The hair becomes thinner and the follicle starts shrinking.
  • Telogen – The thinned hairs fall off to make way for new hair. This lasts for two to four months.

When excess DHT is in the bloodstream, it shortens the Anagen, or growth phase, and causes premature shrinkage of the follicles. Because the DHT is bound to the follicle, often the hair will not re-grow normally.

Provillus helps block DHT from strangling your hair follicles.

Minoxidil, the ingredient clinically proven, and approved by the FDA for re-growing your hair, inhibits DHT. This powerful active ingredient works in your hair follicles.

We add a nourishing blend of natural herbs and minerals to the formula for men. These herbs and minerals support and provide nourishment to nourish your scalp and hair.

Two Kinds of Hormone Replacement Therapy

By Penny Logan

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a protocol of prescribing various hormones to replace those lost by the body in the process of aging. After the age of 35 the production of hormones in the body dwindles, and doctors often use estrogen, testosterone and progesterone to help both men and women increase libido drive, help with weight loss and decrease symptoms of menopause and andropause. The hormones come in pills or sometimes creams or other ways.

The two kinds of hormone replacement are synthetic drugs produced by drug companies and BHRT which stands for bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Synthetic hormones have drawbacks and side effects. BHRT does not. Not only are they safe, but they have been shown to be helpful to the patient. BHRT is not actually brand new - it's been used since the 1930's. Creams and pills are also used in bio-identical hormone replacement, too.

For women BHRT not only reduces or eliminates symptoms of menopause, but also reduces risk of heart disease, fibrocystic breasts and osteoporosis. It actually encourages bone growth and accelerates fat burning so that a woman can lose weight. It augments libido and increases energy, reduces melancholy, improves skin elasticity and prevents vaginal thinning and dryness. It can help both men and women feel more youthful

For men, BHRT also protects against heart disease and increases energy, staves off depression and catalyzes growth of bones. It improves circulation and helps a man sleep more soundly and restores memory and concentration.

There are important differences between bio-identical hormone replacement therapy and synthetic hormone replacement that doctors use today. Foremost, BHRT appears much safer than synthetic hormones. Synthetic hormones have been known to increase the risk of breast cancer and heart disease whereas BHRT appears to have very few & minimal side effects.

BHRT is for those seeking to feel more youthful. Get back the energy had when you were in your 30's.

There are some bio-identical hormones that are made by pharmaceutical companies and these are marketed in standard doses. These are FDA approved. But most bio-identical hormones are made at compounding pharmacies. This means that the pharmacist creates, or compounds, the dose and mixture of hormones specifically for each individual, depending on what the doctor ordered. These custom prescriptions are not FDA approved. All bio-identical hormones are exactly the same as the hormones produced by the body.

There is nothing wrong with the compounded bio-identical hormones just because they do not have an FDA approval. The FDA cannot approve every individual prescription, and therefore doesn't approve or disapprove any compounded medicines, because they aren't standardized. There's nothing submitted to the FDA because the prescriptions are individualized.

If you are considering BHRT, a visit to Angel Longevity Medical Center in Los Angeles would be in order. They are a leading clinic in BHRT and every patient is treated like an individual. Once diagnosis and lab tests are done, Dr. Anju Mathur will prescribe a specially tailor made program of hormone replacement and monitor results closely to ensure you get the best results.
