What causes hair loss?

Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) is a genetic trait. It’s called Androgenetic Alopecia. It’s inherited from your family. If the men in your family are showing a bald spot on the crown, it’s likely you will too.

This is an issue men have been dealing with for centuries. According to legend, Julius Caesar invented the laurel leaf wreath to cover his receding hairline.

Too bad Julius didn’t have access to Provillus in the days of the Roman Empire.

MPB results from genetic traits, and hormonal causes. Provillus can’t change your genetic history, but it can help with the hormonal causes.

DHT is the hormone involved in hair loss

DHT (dihydrotestostrone) is derived from androgen, a male hormone. As the androgen circulates through the bloodstream, it is converted to DHT by the enzyme, 5-alpha reductase. DHT tends to bind to hair follicle receptors,
causing the follicles to sprout thinner and thinner hairs until nothing regrows, and the follicles eventually wither away.

The life cycle of normal hair growth

Normally, hair has three phases of growth:

  • Anagen – The growth phase, lasts for two to six years. Usually 90% of the hair is in growth phase.
  • Catagen -- A transient phase lasting a few weeks. The hair becomes thinner and the follicle starts shrinking.
  • Telogen – The thinned hairs fall off to make way for new hair. This lasts for two to four months.

When excess DHT is in the bloodstream, it shortens the Anagen, or growth phase, and causes premature shrinkage of the follicles. Because the DHT is bound to the follicle, often the hair will not re-grow normally.

Provillus helps block DHT from strangling your hair follicles.

Minoxidil, the ingredient clinically proven, and approved by the FDA for re-growing your hair, inhibits DHT. This powerful active ingredient works in your hair follicles.

Healthy Hair Care Tips For Women's Hair Loss

By Eric Huff

Can good hair care really prevent women's hair loss? The answer to this question is not completely clear. Unfortunately, all women cannot prevent hair loss this easily. The fact is, proper hair care won't prevent hair loss if you are genetically inclined in this direction. Of course, it's also important to take good care of the hair you still have. Keeping your hair and your scalp healthy are vital if you want to prevent hair loss. Losing your hair is an unpleasant and even frightening possibility for most women. The following suggestions on hair care should be useful for you.

You know how important it is to keep the proper moisture in your hair. Inadequate hair moisture will definitely contribute to brittle hair. So be sure to regularly use a quality hair conditioner. However if you have oily hair, then you'll want to use an herbal rinse in the place of a conditioner. You'll only weigh your hair down if you use the conditioner on your oily hair. Actually, what happens is due to the excess weight on your hair, the follicles become weakened. Ask your stylist which option is best for you.

Dyeing the hair is something that every woman experiments with at least once in her life. Addiction to hair dye is probably not a recognized medical condition, but it could be. If you choose this route (and most do it as a money saving measure) don't start by dyeing your roots. Hold-off on dyeing your roots for the final 10-15 minutes. If you put dye on them too soon the dye can seep into the follicle and cause it to become inflamed or even infected. Then, what you may accidentally do is begin the whole process of hair loss in yourself. A professional hair colorist will do it properly and safely. Naturally, this will cost more but your hair will look good, and it will be done professionally.

You are better off with a simple hairstyle that doesn't need much attention. If you have to use gel and mousse and hair spray your hairstyle is too complicated. Ideally, your hair should not take more than five minutes of your attention at a time. You may want to try something simpler if it's taking you any longer than this. How long you keep your hair should depend on what kind of hair you have, as well as how your face is shaped. Hair that is very fine will look too flat if you keep it very long. Curlier hair, meanwhile, usually looks better when it's allowed to grow out a little.

Have your hair styled often at a good salon. Whether or not this is really good for your hair's health is uncertain. What everyone can agree upon is that it helps your hair look good. If you are struggling with women's hair loss, you have to consider the importance of this. You want the hair you have left to look as good as possible right? Your hair stylist is also someone who can observe the condition of your hair, and may be able to alert you regarding the first signs of hair loss so you can consult a doctor about it promptly. Then you may be able to avoid it altogether! Proper hair care might not keep women's hair loss at bay permanently. But you can still develop more confidence about yourself and your hair by learning how to take good care of it. So that can help you to feel better if your hair begins to get a little thinner. Of course you can always consult with your doctor if you think you may have some thinning later on.
